Fiery Serpents

We have just finished the song called "Fiery Serpents".
I wrote the song last week and now it is already mixed and ready for the album and I love the way it sounds.
It was so strange process how the song just came and and I felt I really must get it recorded right away. The music came maybe in two hours and the lyrics even faster.
I am pretty sure the song was just meant to come on the album and I think I wasn't writing it alone. I realized that I was using the words I didn't even know exist.
And you really can feel that presence in the final mix also. The mood is nicely wicked.

Mastering sessions

This morning we were mastering the songs "Faith" and "Everlasting" at Chartmakers (www.chartmakers.fi) with Svante Forsbäck, for a movie that will be in theaters in december (more about that later).
The coffee was good and the result sounds really nice.

Hello everybody! Here we are mixing at the Dynasty. Now we are working with song called Faith and it should be the ending song of the album. Slow and long song like ending song should be. Ok it is only my opinion, but I think it is pretty perfect for that.
Anu is also visiting here and Matti should come here tomorrow. Antti mixed "When The Lights Go Out" earlier this week and hopefully tomorrow or in next few days we start working with Never Ever. I was going to drop it from the album already but our A & R Pauli wanted it on the album and I am happy for it because after I fixed it a bit it started to sound amazing. Pop track from hell. I did some weird programming for it and I also recorded some new guitars with Timo Tolkki and now it rocks.
Ok but anyway the album will be ready in two-three weeks and then we will have parties!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hiya from me too!
I'm fighting here with my Mac, trying to get it working so that I could use it in our future gigs..! Now it's starting to look more promising. Yesterday I was about ready to throw it to the wall.. Well, anyway, the song Antti is mixing right now, Faith, is one of my favorite songs (specially when playing live) and I think too that it's a perfect ending for the album.

-My sisters visited the studio and we made some not so amazing microwave stuff...
-Making arrangements with Anu for When The Lights Go Out
-And some footage from Inkeroinen. I was there resting, writing lyrics and hanging out with my amazing grandmom for two days. 

When The Lights Go Out.

I just started working with a song I wrote about two years ago. We felt it was too electronic for this album so it was dropped, but now that the direction has changed we can record it, and I am very happy about that.
It is the most important song I have ever written and it has been played for the public twice. First we played it live in Nosturi when we were supporting Anathema and the second time it was played at the funeral of the girl I wrote it for. =(

Enlighted dude.

I have been listening to raw mixes of the songs I have been working with this week, and I am really happy about the way they sound. We are like going back in time with this album and getting closer to the sound I was working with two years ago, when the sessions for this album started. Like a circle closing in on itself. We have recorded a rock album, but now it is turning into an electronic pop album... Haha. In the spirit of Sneaker Pimps, Depeche Mode, NIN, Björk, Ladytron etc.
So I have been working with some kind of re-mixing attitude with the tracks we have recorded, and now I have 4 songs with a sound that makes me really happy. Now it feels like we are working with a real Iconcrash album, and a little brother of Nude album. I have also written a lot of new material lately. It is just coming out of me like a flood, but I think it is because of this feeling that finally I know how the album should sound. 

This nice soundtrack cd will be out next month in US.

We have been working on a few songs with Pauli Rantasalmi and we have had some really nice time here at the studio and the songs are already sounding pretty fucking cool. We weren't that happy with the versions we already did so now we are working with the new versions. Of course my horse. The album is taking a more electronic direction now. It just sounded a bit boring so we didn't want to start mixing it yet and we simply don't want to do boring albums. Nope. We are now working with Everlasting and Sleeper and once we are done with these Antti should mix Strange, Strange dark Star. It sounds right already.

But the most important thing is that I don't drink diet coke anymore. Now my drug of choice is coffee. And H2Oh Apple! Fucking hell that is cool stuff!

Singing in the rain

The sky is grey and it's been raining heavily since last evening. But we don't mind because we're inside the studio, wohoo! And guess what - we're singing!!! Oh yes, Jaani finally got his voice back and he's singing over there at the moment. I'm sitting on the sofa watching Jools Holland and waiting for my turn. We've also been recording some backing vocals with Matti and tonight I'm gonna do one more song. Hopefully I won't fall asleep before that..

Oh! Björk! In Jools Holland. What a nice surprise! She's one of my favorite artists.

We also had a band rehearsal today. We're playing at the Mama Trash Festival on Friday. We hope to see many of you there! :)

We were supposed to do a "studio food today" report with Matti but he left already. So you will get only my report. So.

Food in the Studio. AKA What I ate today. Part one.

- pasta with tomato-basil-mushroom-paprika-onion-garlic sauce (home-made!) and some parmesan on top (this has really been my all-time studio food highlight!)

I am really trying to get my voice back so I tried the real old school way....

Horrible stuff. Now I feel like shit but I hope tomorrow when I should start singing again I feel better. At least my voice should be better. Nothing else matters now.

like there is a little sahara in my throat.

So we've been recording some amAAAAAAzinG synth stuff lately. Almost all the synth tracks are ready, just some nice little things left and then - the vocals (good luck, Jaani)! 

I need to get some sleep. My throat is hurting again...grrr.......

hello!

here we are and we've done some awesome guitar tracks. can't believe it. I guess it's too good to be true. Soon...i mean very soon we'll record some acoustic guitar and they will also sound like nothing . awesome. I hope that some of this good spirit that has landed into us will reflect to your future listening period of our upcoming album. It will have a healing effect. for example your wounds from the childhood will heal. I bet everyone how buys this sound recording will have some sort of connection to higher powers. Jaani prefers that acoustic guitars should have some influences from johnny cash/heidi klum. Will see what happens next.

Whales and stuff.

We have had really good sessions so far. We have recorded drums for three tracks this weekend and tomorrow we will get one or two more done.  Tomorrow will be a bit shorter day because we will sign a new record deal and after that some of us will go to see Smashing Pumpkins. I might be one of them...haha. My little sisters were in Helsinki this weekend and it was soooo super cool to see them. They visited the studio too and brought us candies and really good company.

Back in business.

Jihaa!!!! Tomorrow we are finally back in studio. Last night we had last rehearsals together and even mighty mr Eräkangas was there checking out the new tunes.




From tomorrow we will spend something like two months at the studio and then the album should be ready. Oh yeah... I hope Xena is ready for the action again. Ok she looked ok yesterday when we were there and I might go there tonite too to try few ideas on the songs we recorded in the last sessions.

On TV

Those of you (specially Finnish ones) who are interested in seeing me talking about my last year's Master's thesis - videogame music - should watch Tilt.TV on SubTv this week. Yesterday was already the first showing but SubTv is showing the reruns today, Saturday and Sunday. And tomorrow there should be a longer version of the interview on their website www.tilt.tv (that all non Finns can watch too :) But it's in Finnish so maybe there's no point..) Choose Tilt.WebTv on the left and then the episode is 03-08 and my part is called GAMESTYLE.

So now you see our rehearsal space. There are few other bands in the same room too so we don't own all the stuff you see in the video... haha. Matti could not join us today but he should be with us tomorrow when we start working with the song called Insecurity. I have made a home demo version of the song and tomorrow will Ikonize the arrangement. Let´s see how it will sound tomorrow.   Hopefully better than the songs we played today....

Hi everybody! It's been quiet here in the blog lately because we have time off from the studio. We have now decided seven song we will record in the next sessions and they are:

So we will record 12 songs for the album and I guess ten will end up on the final album and two

are going to be b-sides of the singles. We will see how it goes in the end, but this is the great plan a.

I try to remember to take camera or this MacBook with to our rehearsal space and shoot some footage there so you can see how the songs for the next sessions starts to hopefully find their final nature. Final nature??? Hmm.. Ok, but you will hear how bad they sound's before we record them. Hahaha. 

So next two weeks we will rehearse and I will visit Estonia because of My Sky's video. I can tell you that it will be amazing... it is almost ready, but it still needs some "singing" parts.

A Ghost on tape!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Fuck fucking fuck!!!!! We were in the night life with Antti last night so we are in pretty bad shape now and very sensitive. There have been really weird mood last few days here at the studio. But we just shot some video footage and there it was! A fucking ghost or something, but of course we like to think it is a ghost hahaha. I think I will take few icons with me when we have next sessions... I have nothing against ghosts generally but I don't like this guy at all. Well you can see by your self. That black fuck that flies first over Big A and then over my mac. Good stuff indeed...

Antti had a day off so we have been doing all kinda fun here whole day. Ok rest of the guys left hours ago, but i am still here.
Listening the songs and trying new vocal ideas and all kinda stupid stuff. Lets see do what Antti will say tomorrow when he will hear all the mayhem on tape. Maybe I should take a taxi home soon.(It is 2:40am) or maybe I will walk. It is 5 km but I kinda feel like walking.
But now I will change a song... laters.

We are now mixing Strange, Strange Dark Star and tomorrow we will sing My Sky vocal tracks and on tuesday starts a rehearsal break. It will be something like 3 weeks.
We well try to learn how to play the songs of the session. We haven't quite decided yet what songs are next on the line, but for sure we will record Between Light And Nowhere, Sixty Seconds and Faith. I quess we will do also The Mission and Insecurity.
We will see. We will shoot footage from the rehearsals too so you will be informed.
